Back in September, I helped organise the Sark Opera on the tiny, independently-governed island that I call home.
Boasting a unique line-up of operatic songs, the festival was a sell-out success.

The event received support from a lot of wonderful people and organisations:
- Montessori St. Nicholas came on board as the main sponsor.
- Sark Tourism helped us promote it to the general public.
- The island’s Seigneur Christopher Beaumont and his family hosted everyone at their ancestral home.
- Stocks Hotel and La Moinerie did a fabulous job hosting our guests.
- Sark Estate Management of the Barclay family offered the first-ever public tasting of their sparkling wine.
- Afaafa helped us popularise the event among the residents of neighbouring Guernsey.
- Sue Daly from Sark went above and beyond to shoot footage of the event.
- Jan Guy organised our programme of hikes around the island.
- Last but certainly not least, the ABC of Opera of Mark Llewelyn Evans brought some of the world’s best opera performers to the island.
I am personally grateful to all of those supporters, as well as countless others who generously contributed their expertise.
The event also single-handedly injected GBP 50,000 into the island’s tourism economy, and procured resources from local providers whenever possible.
In 2020, I’ll organise another event of some kind on Sark. Stay tuned for more. Subscribers of this website will be the first to hear about it.
